As sydney started to grow so did Pyrmont, prymont was providing resources for the city to grow with new infrastructure and building employment, attracting the Blue-Collar workers. During the World War in 1939-1945, it changed pyrmont completely because now pyrmont had to hold and handle war supplies and the work turned to the war instead of in the buildings and infrastructures, so manufacturing started to move to suburbs around pyrmont. By the 70's the infrastructure and industries in Pyrmont where almost all gone, this was due to Port Botany opening bigger and better industries, attracting employment from Pyrmont. By 1981 the population had now dropped to 1590, the government then began a program of redevelopment in the area, new buildings were built in 1999. The population in 2004 was recorded at 13,000.

In 1992 the "City West Development Corporation" was given the task to renew the Pyrmont area, then later on in 1999 was changed to the Sydney Harbor Foreshore Authority. By 2004 the population rised to 13,000 with the renewal of the buildings attracted more jobs and with more jobs more people. The sugar refinery closed down and the Cooperage and Tablet House were restored as residential and office space. This followed the redevelopment of the suburb, the redevelopment of the suburb led to different types of cultures coming in the Pyrmont making it more multicultural.
